The course aims to be fairly comprehensive within the 5-day duration, covering what I con-
sider from long teaching experience to be ei-
ther
the most important or the most individually challenging areas of model-making. These areas and tasks include: methods and mater-
ials for construction; methods of shaping diffi-
cult forms; working with plastics; modelling with soft materials; working with and soldering metals; model figures; simulating plants and trees; working with wood; methods of creating textural surfaces; simple mould-making and casting; painting and finishing.
A more detailed daily schedule is available here as PDF download.
Although this schedule is usually kept to, the course is adaptive to the specific needs of the group of people taking part, and I always ask for information from each participant before-
hand outlining what they do and what they would most like to learn from the course, so that I can steer the content accordingly. The variety of people, coming from different disci-
plines, adds greatly to the value of group dis-
cussion and time is purposefully scheduled-in to take full advantage of this. To this end, for example, participants are encouraged to come with specific making challenges they might have had ...or successfully overcome! .. in the past and time is set aside at the end of each day to discuss these as a group.
